This topic is constantly mentioned, that when closing a window, click onto the [size=200:3mqnx51t][color=#FF0000:3mqnx51t][b:3mqnx51t]X[/b:3mqnx51t][/color:3mqnx51t][/size:3mqnx51t], (okay it does not like like this X, but you get the message) instead of using the [b:3mqnx51t][size=150:3mqnx51t]CLOSE[/size:3mqnx51t][/b:3mqnx51t] button. A friend recently told me of a funny incident which totally woke him up (I've been helping him surf and this was a rule I tried to get him to observe). While surfing a site, he was presented with a window which stated (something like this) "a live operator wants to chat with you ..... press the CANCEL button to begin a conversation ......"
He was given two options, press an OKAY or CANCEL button. That's when he remembered my lectures of clicking the big red X. He did so and in his panic state also shut the computer off. The rest of the story is that he was NOT infected, but was that luck or .......
I'm happy to say he now listens to my common sense and is more aware of what and how he clicks, Mindblower!

I do wish more users would adopt a safe clicking policy; double check information in links and banners before clicking, make sure the link they are clicking on is the right one, beware of 'free' offers and downloads, beware of free scans, etc, etc.
In my experience, the 'compulsive clicking syndrome' seems to be more prevalent in (dare I say it) elderly gentlemen. Quite a few of my 'clients' fit into that category, I am called to their home to fix something on the PC and during my investigations I come across an unknown (to me) program. When I query it they often have no idea where it came from or what it is for.
Don't wish to bore anyone but I'll relate one story; I was forever being called out to fix one elderly gent's PC. The cause of the problems was always the same...multiple infections. I knew he was a compulsive clicker and had taken him through the safe surfing doctrine many times over. Anyway, he called me out yet again and I duly cleaned up the machine and was in the process of running through all the do's and don't s yet again when he said he had a download he wanted to get and would I stand there and watch him. I agreed, so he went to the download site and [i:1kie5qtq]immediately[/i:1kie5qtq] clicked on a link to a rogue scanner which had absolutely nothing to do with the intended download.....where do you go from there!!!
