Netbook shuts down but boots in safe mode

Packard Bell netbook KAV60, without battery which appears to be missing so using charger only.
It goes through part of the Windows 7 loading process but switches itself off after about 15 to 30 seconds. It will boot to safe mode with or without networking, but even in that mode sometimes shuts down.
Temperatures appear to be fairly normal using HWMonitor and the fan kicks in and runs.
I uninstalled the Intel graphics driver in safe mode which made no difference.
I also ran Ubuntu live off a USB and ran Youtube vids in a loop for over an hour and it didn't shut down.
Also ran Eset USB boot scan which found a few threats which it deleted but it still shuts down in normal boot.
My gut tells me it's a driver issue.
Formatting and reinstall may be on the cards though.
Any thoughts?

Seagate Seatools came up with no errors and so it's the last resort - format/reinstall Windows.

Could be just about anything Marc but, after what you've already more or less eliminated, it sounds a lot like a failing capacitor.

Something hardware related is definitely failing Jim and so it's one of those unfortunate moments when I have to admit defeat.
Furthermore, the cost of repairing this battered netbook is more than it's worth.

You might try loading a lightweight Linux Distro like Lubuntu and see if that will boot. Other than that I would say it was CPU related. Have a great day. Daniel.

Ha !
Reminds me of the times I fixed TV's.
Mrs XX would bring it in with the words: "It isn't much. My Husband thinks it's just a capacitor."
I would then ask: "A coupling, bypass, timing or reservoir capacitor ..which one?"
That usually did the trick.

Get a can of air. Open the back cover where the processor is located and blow it clean, check the memory stick and the HD also, give it a thorough blast of air. I have seen the on-off issue before,on laptops, it was dust issues.
