Ok, so I have repaired numerous computers over the years. Some have tested me, some have been a breeze. I firmly believe I have the computer from Hell here to fix. it is a Dell INspiron N5110.

So the hard drive had failed on it & I decided to tackle putting in a new one for the customer. Whoever designed it should be tarred & feathered. The hard drive is mounted under the motherboard and the whole thing needs to be taken apart to get to it.

After tackling that project, I got it in and was successful. I wish I could say the same for installing the OS. I try to install it & it fails every time. I ran diagnostics, nothing wrong with the Hard drive or any other hardware for that matter.

It asks me where do I want to install Windows & it says Disk 0 Unallocated space 745.2GB. Every time I try to install it I get an error message. Aside from doing a handstand to install the OS, nothing is working & I am ready to shuck the laptop out the window.

I checked the Bios settings and everything is perfect. I tried even adding a partition and no luck. Help!!!!!!!! Error code 0x80300024. I know that has to do with the partition, but I have lost all patience.

Have you tried installing from a different type of windows media, like W7 retail or you might even use a W10 system image stored on a USB stick. That Dell disk you have may not work.

You might try downloading this Dell W7 ISO and burn it to a disc, just make sure the disc is compatible with the CD drive

Sherri. This does sound silly, but did you try installing any other o/s other than Windows to totally rule out that error message, Mindblower!

Yes I did. I accidentally installed a 32 bit version. I was supposed to set up a 64 bit. Needless to say this pc is giving me fits. I am ready to just return it to the customer or buy a hard drive on my dime & start over which I do not want to do.

I repair computers all the time but on account of this computer from Hell I am considering retiring. It has put me in a funk and nothing anyone tells me to try works.

I am unfamiliar with partitioning programs and I have been told to try them. Puh

Sherri, my favorite partition software is a live CD using gparted. Download the Gparted Iso and burn it to a CD, mine is on a CD-R disc. This will let you boot that laptop and see what is going on with that HDD.
I would tell you to pull that HDD and mail it to me and I would partition the HDD for you. The last Live Gparted I burned was back in 2013 and it is still working fine.

Either the i686 or the amd64 will work, if the laptop can run 64bit then try the amd64 ISO.
You will have to start the PC and put in the CD and then reboot, just make sure the bios is set to boot from the CDROM drive. If you have a ? then send me an email or FB message ar maybe we could use skype.
