All technical explanations and shouldbes and couldbes aside,

is there really a noticeable difference between digital and analog sound when playing games and movies for the typical user?

Dr Denby,

In the end, when all is said and done, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, it's the ear of the listener.

Yep, Richard is 100% correct. Even dedicated audiophiles can't agree on which is optimum.

Strictly speaking; audio recorded in digital is best suited to a digital system and audio recorded in analog is best suited to an analog system. However, even when mixing and matching, there would be very little difference in the end result... probably nothing discernible to the human ear.
