Are we planning on putting a windows 8 section up in the forums? It might make it easier to find any new info on it.

Hmm, good thought TeXaCo!!

Personally, I think it is a tad too early at this stage for a dedicated section. Windows 8 is still very much in development mode and deployment is minimal. We currently have a "Windows Software" section and I believe that will suffice for the time being. On the other hand, Windows 8 [i:324ntt30]is[/i:324ntt30] here to stay and we shall require a dedicated section to accommodate the new OS sooner or later.

That said; I am just one small cog in a large wheel, Dave is the main man and it's really up to him. I'm sure Dave will be along soon with a definitive response.

Cheers now...Jim

My personal thought is that a Windows 8 section should wait until the software is at least in open beta -- if not at RTM (Release to Manufacturing).

Has anyone used Windows 8 yet? What do you think?
Thoughts?

My thoughts are along the same lines as Ziggy.

The reason I believe it is too soon is twofold.
1 - The software that has been released is a [i:zysn9228]Developer preview[/i:zysn9228] that is meant to showcase the new Metro interface to developers. It is not meant to reflect the average users desktop experience, but it geared more toward a tablet/touch interface.
2 - While the underpinnings of the OS are mostly feature complete the day to day functionality can change on a dime. Day to day, or minute to minute, features can/do/will change.

At the moment I think the [url=http://www.davescomputertips.com:zysn9228]blog[/url:zysn9228] is the best place to handle Windows 8. If I create a new forum there will be a lot of misinformation and discussion about items that may not actually be relevant, which might (probably) influence those readers who don't have an understanding of the development process or confuse them. It's really too early in the game IMHO.

That said, if there were enough users asking I might reconsider so they have a place to discuss it, though I might label it Win 8 development or something similar.

FWIW, I have the dev preview running in a VM. It's interesting, if not a little different! I anxiously await a (mostly) feature complete beta.
