Hi

I  have a 5 year old Dell Vostro, Win 10.

I want to buy another and keep this as backup, instead of transferring all data.

what should I go for? A laptop  or notebook ?

The new one will be win11.

So, the programs on this laptop can run on that ? Like many Ashampoo programs?

I have won several from your site, so how do I go about that?

I want to learn video editing , of which the present one is incapable.

What graphic card is needed?

What is the minimum specification I should look for?

I hate recurring expenses so didnt opt for office 365. What alternative I need?

Or with Google I dont need office at all?

Please help.

Hey Shobha,

what should I go for? A laptop  or notebook ?

Definitely go for a laptop. Laptops are generally lager (bigger screens) than notebooks and come with more powerful hardware

So, the programs on this laptop can run on that ? Like many Ashampoo programs?

Unfortunately, you might encounter a problem there. Most premium software, even when purchased, can only be activated once- one activation per license. You'll probably have to try and win some more licenses through DCT

As an alternative, if you let me know what sort of software you need/want I can recommend the best free ones for you

What graphic card is needed?

You do not need a graphic card to edit and/or convert videos. What you need is a decent CPU (processor) and a reasonable amount of RAM- (see the next answer)

What is the minimum specification I should look for?

As a minimum I would recommend an Intel i5 or Ryzen 5 CPU with 16GB RAM and a 500GB SSD (preferably an NVMe SSD)

I hate recurring expenses so didnt opt for office 365. What alternative I need?

Two very good MS Office alternatives are LibreOffice and OpenOffice. Both are free full office suites fully compatible with MS Office. I prefer LibreOffice myself but either will do a good job for you

I hope that helps Shobha, feel free to ask any further questions and I'll answer them as best I can.

Cheers... Jim

Thanks Jim

I know I can always count on DCT and You. God Bless.

You have clarified my thinking!
