Get ready for a new computer term, Copilot+, which refers to the latest PCs that come with fully integrated AI.
I received an email from Asus last week informing me of the release of the company’s first Copilot+ PC, a Vivobook laptop. It certainly is a beautiful machine with excellent specs, including the new NPU (Neural Processing Unit), and a price tag to match.

Microsoft also recently announced the impending release of its new Copilot+ Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models:

New keyboard layout for Copilot+ PCs: For the first time in many years the standard Windows keyboard layout has been changed to accommodate a separate “Copilot” key. The new key is positioned at the bottom right of keyboards adjacent to the existing ALT key:

The Dawning Of A New PC Era?
Like it or not, I believe these new AI-driven PCs will eventually become the norm, with traditional PCs fading into oblivion. This, my friends, is the market trend suggested by history. Take televisions, for example. When smart TVs were first introduced consumers still had the choice between smart and “dumb” TVs. That choice is long gone with new dumb TVs now extinct. I don’t know what the situation is in the U.S., but here in Australia, new dumb TVs have not been available for many years.
BOTTOM LINE:
Personally, I have no need for an AI-driven PC. I don’t use my computers for any sort of complex technical activities so a traditional PC will suffice for my meagre requirements. However, as I have said, eventually, I don’t believe any of us will have a choice.

Jim. Totally agree this is overkill to my computing needs. Not sure how they will sell, or who can afford this high price tag. What gives me a laugh, is knowing that in no time these high spec laps will be replaced while people are still waiting for theirs to arrive, Mindblower!
