Facebook: Temporarily Blocked Because You’re Going Too Fast

Yesterday I had a guy bring me his computer because he had an issue with Facebook. He was getting a message that “A feature was temporarily blocked because he was using it too fast”.

He could only scroll down through a few posts on his wall and he would get a popup message claiming “It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast.” Was he scrolling down through his post too fast? If you are going to block an account, Facebook, at least give a more detailed message on what was actually done wrong.

Even with the block, he still had some limited use of the site, like Messenger. In this case, I could scroll down through a few posts until he got to an error message claiming that something went wrong, click on the reload/refresh page button, which only brought up the blocked feature message.

A number of people have had this happen to them according to an online search. Apparently, any activities done repeatedly in quick succession get flagged. Facebook AI thinks you are a spammer or a robot. Because a robot is trying to determine if you are human or not.

Other people online seem to have had the same issue. Sometimes the block lasts a few hours, sometimes a couple of days. There is a feedback option but it’s hard to defend yourself when you don’t know what you did. I just left the message, “I don’t know what I did.”

Luckily the block is gone this morning. I can’t tell the owner not what to do because neither one of us knows what he did wrong. Thank You, Facebook.

I was going to take screenshots this morning but the problem seems to have been cleared up. If you get this blocked account message, click on any button or option that allows appealing the decision, but otherwise there is nothing else you can do but wait until Facebook unblocks you.

I know Daves Computer Tips is still dealing with its Facebook issues. So have you been blocked, banned, or locked out from Facebook? Let us know your experiences in the comments.

  1. Apparently if you can read quickly and react quickly with a like/love/hate/… then you’re not human. If I can’t react to posts then why follow facebook?

    1. all i did was sign on and move my mouse and i get YOU ARE GOING TOO FAST. how the heck do you use a mouse too fast. and i have msgd fb helpless desk 500 times and of course you never know if anyone ever even gets the help request. cause you know they only send notification that maen othing imagine if they would actually msg us and help us

      1. This popped up on my FB page while I was on the phone talking to my brother. I had not touched the keyboard for at least 15 – 20 minutes. Now if I scroll down the list of notifications, it pops up again. I notified them twice in the available box.

    2. I’m trying to reset my password and keep getting this message. AI is not our friend but terminator may now be a nearer movie then it was before

  2. Had my first facebook block with IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR WERE MISUSING THIS FEATURE BY GOING TOO FAST. YOU’VE BEEN TEMPORAILY BLOCKED. Right, I don’t know what I did wrong. I sent like 10 messages with similar words and when I went back to those people, the messages were gone. Is this what I did wrong? I was just trying to shortcut not having to retype each message. Changed each message a little. Didn’t know I was doing something bad. These people know me.

  3. Sir i recieved this message when i am going to accept my frieds request i can’t accept it what i do

  4. What does “going too fast” mean?
I don’t use Facebook very much. I tried to sign in so that I could retrieve my password or set up a new one, and got the “going too fast” message.

  5. I’ve been blocked from Facebook for going to fast for almost 2months
How stupid I can’t even delete my acct from Facebook now
I want to cancel Facebook not worth using it

  6. I get that message while trying to recover a hacked account that I don’t have access to. Trying to follow the steps in the help center, but no go. The hacker is sending messages to my friends, so now I’m just trying to find a way to get the account deactivated. Really frustrating, I can’t be the 1st person this happened too but I have yet to find any real help to fix this! What a mess!

this is happening to me right now…a year later. you would think they have figured it out bynow. did you ever get your account back?? im still trying to figure it out. 15 years of pics….at least they deactivated the account. i would love to get it back just to download the pics
      Dot

  7. i got the same message or similar message today but it also appears that someone else has hacked into my facebook with a different email, and facebook is not allowing me to log into my facebook with my email and password, and i can’t reset my password as it’s showing the person’s email in short form, to send the code to, to reset my password. and when i click on not me to find my account with my email, a message comes up which says:

    You’re Temporarily Blocked
It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.
If you think that this doesn’t go against our Community Standards, let us know.

when i click on let us know, it takes me through the whole process again with the same temporarily blocked message and doesn’t allow me to login into my facebook with my email and password and also shows my facebook profile photo preview with my facebook name but with a different email in short form, which might have been used in hacking into my facebook account.

also i had received a login alert from facebook to my email earlier on, which i haven’t seen earlier, which says:

We’ve noticed an unusual login from a device or location you don’t usually use. Was this you?

but when i click on Review Login or Manage Alerts, it doesn’t recognise my email or password and takes me through the whole process again with the temporarily blocked message.

also when tried on i think my account has been hacked, it still doesn’t recognize my email and password.

what shall i do, to recover my facebook account back?

    1. I started getting this message after 4/28/23 . Along with not being able to send or receive email from the old hotmail account that Ive always used . My cell phone also stopped allowing texts sent or received and would not connect to local towers . I had to get. new phone and new number . Reported the problems to the FTC but as far as I know nothing has become of it and Im still locked out of my FB account and its now June of 2023 .

  8. If you have a ad blocker running will cause the same problem. Shut ad blocker off and I was able to get into my account.

  9. i got this msg yesterday. i was away from my computer and came back to it so have no idea what i did! all it won’t let me access is my new/unread notifications. i can click on all just not unread.

    1. shortly after i was in trouble for a comment i made on FB so wondering if it was related as it stopped after i was notified

  10. Me today! Cleared my cache, logged out and back into Facebook (on all devices AND browsers) and STILl getting this message on Chrome. I admin a few groups on Facebook and was doing my admin duties last night and this started. I’ve left feedback each time it’s popped up.

  11. I had this happen 7 days ago – received the using it too fast message. Still can’t access it

    1. Terry Hollett

You hear people doing different things that seem to work but it doesn’t seem to work for everybody. In these cases, I think that it’s a coincidence you did something just as Facebook removed the block.

  12. Got another issue with FB/meta support (surprised?) my account was hacked, they changed the email on the account, I went through the protocol to try to reclaim the account by logging in, saying I lost access and no longer had access to the email now listed in my account, sent them a photo of my ID, and I get an email saying they have received my request, and I could track the progress of them looking into in, and when I track the process,it says a decision was made and an email was sent, but I never received that email. Any ideas what to do next???

  13. We always kept and shared our travel albums on Shutterfly, but this past winter, 2023 they took down their Share Sites. It looked like I could post albums with captions on Facebook, so my husband and I downloaded the pictures from Shutterfly, uploaded to FB and copied and pasted the captions. In total it was 90+ albums, each with ~100 pictures with captions and links telling the story of our trip. No problem at all on FB. We were doing about 3 albums per day. Now, we are just back from a trip to Provence, I uploaded 97 pictures, and after captioning about 20, they blocked me for going too fast. Why the sudden change?

    1. Terry Hollett

That’s the problem. Facebook won’t tell us. When you get that error message, click on the words Help Center (usually in blue) and see if that will lead you to a feedback option. Fill it out and send it in. Then wait. Some claim this shortens the wait time. Others have claimed success by clearing out the web browser cache, resetting the browser, or using a different browser. Update the browser. Use a different device, like a different computer. As I said before in these cases I think that it’s a coincidence they did something just as Facebook removed the block. The only cure seems to wait it out.

  14. Mike in Seattle

I am getting this right now whenever I try and click on someones FB page

It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.

FB works fine on my phone.

I have sent several messages to FB using quite colorful language.

  15. is there actually a forum you can send messages to FB? where a real human can see it and respond or ignore it?

    1. Terry Hollett

Not that I am aware of. You can try these emails. No promises.

support@fb.com: Use this email to get general support.
press@fb.com: Send your press-related queries to this email.
records@fb.com: Use this email for law enforcement concerns.
appeals@fb.com: Appeal against your blocked content using this email.
abuse@fb.com: Report content violating Facebook’s guidelines via this email address.
datarequests@fb.com: Use this email to ask Facebook what data it has about you.
ip@fb.com: For intellectual property-related queries, use this email.
phish@fb.com: Report phishing content via this email address.

      1. have you ever heard of anyone getting any response to the support email address?

  16. Michael Seaberg

Could this possibly be due to using the FBP Facebook Purity system? Is anyone else using FBP having problems like this?

    1. Terry Hollett

In case you are not aware, Facebook Purity is an extension that helps you get a little bit more control over how information is organized on your page. I don’t think anyone has mentioned using this extension. Also, extensions only change the version of the page you see in your browser but don’t actually change your Facebook page online and can’t. Correct me if I’m wrong. So, I can’t see it interfering in this manner. Have you had any problems with it? If you suspect an extension causing your problem just try Facebook with the extension disabled.

  17. Tried logging in and clicked forgot password and received the message.

    “You’re Temporarily Blocked
It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.
If you think this doesn’t go against our Community Standards let us know.

Haven’t logged in for a while, how can you go too fast when clicking forgot password. Does Facebook think it takes you 5 minutes to click a box.

  18. could not recover my account it said I was temporarally blocked from using the feature to recover my account because I was going too fast what about the owner of facebook do we get to block his account turn about is fair play truth

  19. This is a first for me. I’ve been scrolling though facebook for years, and suddenly this message pops up on my screen : “You’re Temporarily Blocked
It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.

If you think that this doesn’t go against our Community Standards, let us know.”
To start with, I wasn’t misusing anything, just doing what I’ve always done. I’m an old farte and not particularly tech-savvy, so I get really ratty when stuff like this happens through no fault of mine. If I’m faster than a robot, then doesn’t that make me superwoman? Is the robot jealous or what? LOL!

    1. DOROTHY KENNEY

LOL that bit about the robot really cracked me up i dont understand i can be off facebook all day go on in the evening and get the message come up as soon as i log in and not even had a chance to do anything asked them to please explain this been happening for ages now you just cheered me up with your comment.

  20. i kept sending msgs to the helpless desk and screen shots i was so angry it lasted for 2 days. they finally blocked me from being ab le to report it. the helpless desk is just that worthless. gee imagine if there was a way to notify us they have received our rquest for help and are working on it. but no, we are just held captive

  21. I got this same message even though I rarely use Facebook and hadn’t logged on for months. I simply tried to log on and was denied access. I got the message that I used the wrong password. But, I am meticulous about keeping my passwords on file, and I doubt it is true. When I clicked on the option to get a new password, the code was not sent to my email to do so. I tried several times. When I did a Find Page search, it gave me this “You’re moving too fast, and I’m blocked from my account” explanation. I still cannot get a new password or access my Facebook account after two days. I have no idea what to do next.

  22. I received this notification today, and have no idea why? It is mind boggling. I am a Coach and was hoping on to prepare for my live coaching in my group tonight and was faced with You’re Temporarily Blocked
It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.

Go figure, I have no idea what I did at all, especially seeing as I was not on at the time.
