Bearing in mind that XP’s end of support date is just around the corner, and many XP users will be looking to upgrade their operating system, we thought this might be a timely and useful prize.
DCT is pretty much the ‘home’ of Windows 8/8.1. Dave, myself, and Richard are all running Windows 8.1 and we all like the new operating system. Between us, we have written and published numerous articles, all drawn from first hand experience – guides, tips, how-tos, and the like – to help users setup and manage their new operating system.
It’s a terrific resource for anyone upgrading to Windows 8 or 8.1 and you can access all those articles in the one place by utilizing the ‘Post Categories’ feature in the right hand navigation panel. Just click on the ‘Windows 8’ item to view a list of links to all relevant titles:
For your chance to win the Windows 8.1 64-bit disc and genuine product key, all you need do is simply submit a reply to this article with a comment. We’d prefer if you told us a little about yourself and why you would like a copy of Windows 8.1.
*Now, DCT has never limited its giveaways to Facebook and/or Twitter account holders, our policy has always been “open to everyone”, and we are not changing that now. However, it would be very much appreciated if all Facebook and Twitter account holders who enter the contest could Share, or Like, or Tweet, or whatever you can do to help spread the word. Thanks!

We think you’ll agree, this is one special prize… best of luck to all entrants!
It would be so nice to dump Vista. Thank you
I’m helping my sister by putting together a new pc for her.
She’s retired, and and still on xp. This would be so helpful and just in time.
I am using Win 7 and would love to upgrade to 8. This will give me the opportunity to do so. I have been impressed with what I see in Win 8. Thanks for the chance.
I’m submitting this on a Dell Venue 8 Pro with Windows 8.1 and their bluetooth keyboard. This is a great little system and for its size does all I need in a very small package. It is amazing that Win 8.1 runs so well on something so small! I would love to add this Win 8.1 OS to one of my desktop systems at my office to see if I want to upgrade the others. I hope that I am given the chance with your disk giveaway! Thanks for giving me the chance.
I did not like windows 8 when it first came out. I looked like a typical Microsoft not ready for prime time release. I have not looked at 8.1 but some folks think it is better than Windows 7. I currently love Windows 7 but would enjoy trying 8.1. I am a typical user having been on the Microsoft train since 3.1.
I have a Vista desktop that I would like to change to windows 8.1 if given the chance to win your give away! Thank You
In part because of your recommendations, I’m running 8.1 on all my computers except one, and I would love to upgrade it. It still has XP, and I use it for various purposes at meetings of a non-profit trade association I manage. While it still works just fine for printing labels, showing PowerPoint presentations, etc., many of our venues have free WiFi that I would love to be able to use without fear of contamination. Thanks for this opportunity.
I’d love to win a copy to install on my Dad’s WIndows XP desktop, if he would be willing to try it out. Otherwise, I would upgrade one of my WIndows 7 laptops.
We live on Social Security and really can’t afford 8.1update. So, here’s hoping mother luck smiles on me.
Thanks so much,
Well,I guess it’s time to bite the bullet and jump in.I still love XP and will keep it running on one old Dell til I die.I skipped Vista and adopted 7 for all of the other PCs in the house.Who knows, might be an excuse for a new touch monitor. Thanks for the opportunity!
I feel that Windows 8.1 was released really to fix the gaping holes that Windows 8 had, which 8.1 does well. While it was focused on the ‘Modern’ UI, that was where many of the problems were and caused the most frustration among users. I think that your comments are similar to those seen by many other users that have made the update as well. I also feel that the article didn’t necessarily cover all of the new features in Windows 8.1 and focused more on what’s on the surface.
Thanks for Giveaway,
Thanks Jim, Your site is always interesting and informative, and now we even have an another additional reason to forward to when you make the announcement of who is going to win the Windows 8.1-64 bit Operating System. I would appreciate it very much if I was a lucky winner.
Why I Would Like a Copy of Windows 8.1
I’m building new desktop with 19′ touch screen monitor
would love to put Copy of Windows 8.1 on my new pc
to make full use of 19′ touch screen monitor…
I need to upgrade my long time friend, a XP Desktop with the new Windows 8.1.
Thank you for this giveaway!
Thanks for the giveaway. I think it would be great to win as I have always wanted to up grade to 8 but the change is hard for us old people
I’m using Vista and would like to upgrade to a newer operating system – not that I’ve had trouble with Vista, but I think it’s time. Unfortunately I doubt my computer system would handle a 64 bit operating system without hardware upgrading. If you ever come up with a freebie for 32 bit welll…
I have received several of your giveaways in the past and do appreciate this service…
I am a sad sack and always like to be ‘hip and happenin’. Can’t think of a better way for me to keep up and “cool”. Remember an old worn out hippie when you dish out the Windows 8.1!
I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 on desktop and a tablet. I still have Windows 7 on my laptop and would dearly love to have a copy of Windows 8.1 to upgrade it. I love working with Windows 8.1 and trying my best to convert my friends to it. All the other OSs are pale in comparison and I cannot understand why people are reluctant to try it.
Hi,
I would really like if i get this one. Because i am a student and i really like windows 8 for creating my assignments. Hope i am the lucky winner. Thanks
We are a homeschool family (which means that we homeschool our children). We have used a computerized curriculum for 14 years now (however, we have been homeschooling for 24 years). We have 10 children and 4 of them are still in school. We have 10 years of homeschooling to go. My main desktop has Windows XP but it can run Windows 8.1. However, with a limited budget I can’t justify spending the money for it. I know that I may not have much of a chance of winning this contest but I am thankful for the opportunity to participate. Yes, I would definitely have use for this if I won it. I do need to upgrade my desktop that’s for sure. Thank you for this giveaway and I will be extremely happy no matter who wins it.
I use Win7 on two household machines and win 8 on another. Not much difference if you boot directly into the desktop. Since none of the machines has a touch screen the new media interface does not present any advantage. Win 8 might have a slight speed advantage but not that you would readily notice. I purchased two of the Win 8 pro upgrades from Microsoft when 8 first came out for $39.95. Winning another would fill my machines requirement. Nor sure if I would upgrade my desktop anyway because it is more than six years old and I might have driver compatibility problems. I already get the weekly newsletter,
I had tried Windows 8 when it first came out and was not impressed. But now that it has matured to 8.1, I look forward to try it out again and see if my impressions have changed. With XP support going away I need to upgrade my equipment and a new OS would be just what the doctor ordered.
Thanks again,
Thanks for the chance to win a copy of Windows 8.1. Just in time because I need a new version of Windows for my XP desktop.
Hola….En mi opinion windows 8.1 es espectacular…mucho mejor que el seven…es mas rapido y cuenta con una interfaz rapida y eficiente con multitud de opciones….gracias
Being a Vista user since 2008, I think I’ve paid my dues watching my OS slow to a crawl over the years. Admittedly, once I’m up and running Vista is tolerable but til I get there (a 15 minute bootup, no exaggeration) it’s siesta-time. I was saving my pennies for a Win 7 Pro 64 bit system but Win 8.1 would be even sweeter! How ’bout it, mate?
