Daves Computer Tips is offering our subscribers the chance to win a copy of Windows 8.1 64-bit, including installation media and genuine product key, absolutely free!

Bearing in mind that XP’s end of support date is just around the corner, and many XP users will be looking to upgrade their operating system, we thought this might be a timely and useful prize.

DCT is pretty much the ‘home’ of Windows 8/8.1. Dave, myself, and Richard are all running Windows 8.1 and we all like the new operating system. Between us, we have written and published numerous articles, all drawn from first hand experience – guides, tips, how-tos, and the like – to help users setup and manage their new operating system.

It’s a terrific resource for anyone upgrading to Windows 8 or 8.1 and you can access all those articles in the one place by utilizing the ‘Post Categories’ feature in the right hand navigation panel. Just click on the ‘Windows 8’ item to view a list of links to all relevant titles:

For your chance to win the Windows 8.1 64-bit disc and genuine product key, all you need do is simply submit a reply to this article with a comment. We’d prefer if you told us a little about yourself and why you would like a copy of Windows 8.1.

*Now, DCT has never limited its giveaways to Facebook and/or Twitter account holders, our policy has always been “open to everyone”, and we are not changing that now. However, it would be very much appreciated if all Facebook and Twitter account holders who enter the contest could Share, or Like, or Tweet, or whatever you can do to help spread the word. Thanks!

  • Competition closes 14th April
  • If your comment does not appear immediately it’s because first comments must be moderated, it will appear shorty!
  • A postal address will be required to deliver this prize – by entering this contest you are explicitly agreeing to provide a postal address if your name comes out as the winner. If you do not wish to provide a genuine postal address, please do not enter.

Competition Rules:

  • To enter: post one reply to this article commenting on why you would like a copy of Windows 8.1.
  • The contest ends on 14th April at 00:01 (EST), any entries made after that time will not be eligible.
  • Your comment MUST be made from a VALID email address – disposable email addresses will not be eligible.
  • Each user is allowed only one entry. In the spirit of fairness, abusers of this rule may have all entries removed, be banned from this contest, or banned from future contests.
  • Shorty after the contest ends the winner will be chosen by random number generator.
  • The winner’s name will be announced on the original giveaway page.
  • The winner will be notified by email at the email address they provided when leaving their comment – be sure to use a valid email that you check regularly.
  • The winner must claim their prize by submitting a contact form which will be available (on this page) once the draw has been completed and winning name published.
  • The winner must claim their license within 7 days. After the seven (7) day period, unclaimed prizes will be distributed at the sole discretion of DCT.

We think you’ll agree, this is one special prize… best of luck to all entrants!

Just had my 80th birthday and as requested my family didn’t buy me any presents this year. Instead we’re going to have a family outing to London especially to go on the London Eye. Yes I’m of your UK followers. But to upgrade my Windows 7 system to Windows 8 that would be WOW WOW WOW. Then I would be able to make use of all your Windows 8 tips that have appeared in the last couple of years.

    Me please

  2. Awesome giveaway.
now i still using win 7 and i need to try windows 8.1 and thanks for this giveaway

  3. I am interested in having a copy of Windows 8 to see if I can find SOMTHING to like about this OS. I am a recently retired corporate SE who is now volunteering for nonprofit as IT support. I recently helped a coworker set up a new windows 8 laptop and struggled with navigation of the OS for the most simple of tasks during configuration of network and installation of basic applications. Even the simple task of figuring out how to shut down was painful 🙂 I would never in a million years consider purchasing this OS. A gift of windows 8 is the only way I will ever get an opportunity to explore this OS and perhaps even learn to like it. I now understand why many major corporations, including the one I retired from, decided to bypass this OS altogether.

  4. Being a winner would be awesome! I simply am not able to pay for a license.
I never miss reading DCT and have all my computer literate friends reading DCT.

  5. hi Mr. Jim, this is a great giveaway indeed, i almost can’t believe my eyes when i see a windows 8 giveaway on my email, such a great opportunity, at least for me.
Well, first i’m in need of a genuine and not a pirated operating system, not like the one i’m using now … ; that’s the only one software that is still not genuine/legal in my pc, the other are all free or giveaway version, which are great. i know i’m wrong, i’ve no excuse here.
uhm.. anyway, please count me in on this giveaway, thank you very much.

  6. Finally – Windows 8.1 with the upcoming Rollup Update will be the Operating System of Choice and will replace Windows 7/XP. I need to upgrade another Family Computer and I sure appreciate this contest from Dave’s Computers – Good Stuff – – – Shorto

  7. Being a admirer of Microsoft products, I like to keep myself updated with all the Microsoft technologies. Windows 8.1 has been one of the best OS Microsoft has ever released. Be it’s looks, features, etc. it stands out from all the previous Microsoft OS. But sad part is I’m yet to get my hands on Windows 8.1 as I’m still a Windows XP user. I wish my crave to get my hands on a genuine Windows 8.1 comes true with this giveaway as I never consider piracy a better option.

  8. I am a Windows XP user from last 7 years so I need to upgrade that one with latest available operating system that is windows 8.1.

  9. Julius Tasselmyer

Looks like it’s getting harder & harder trying to keep my Windows XP desktop runniing clean & updated & uninfected by one thing or another, hoping Windows 8 can stay on top of this. Hope to have good luck with it.

  10. Thanks for this excellent giveaway.
My main system is still running XP so it’d be nice to get the cheapest upgrade possible:)

  11. Thank you for this awesome chance to pick up on Windows 8.1.
My Toshiba has Vista and the hard drive has bit the dust of 1’s and 0’s. I sure would be thankful to Daves Computer Tips if I could get this operating system.
You guys have been on the forefront of technology and have my highest respect either way it goes.
    Thanks for all you do!!

Hi, count me in if you can. I mostly need it for fun, because I use Linux as my main OS, but who wouldn’t like a free windows copy, right? Thanks

  13. I still own Windows XP and I cannot afford a new OS that costs hundreds of dollars. With XP’s support coming to an end I like to win this giveaway. Thanks for the initiative. Count me in.

I prefer windows 8.1 for the following reasons,
    1) Faster Boot up
    2)Nice interface
3)Application make the access to thing more easier as compared to gadgets in previous versions of windows
    4)Faster processing
    I really want this giveaway….

  15. Wanted to switch to Windows 8.1 for some time now, but it’s kinda out of my price range. “Free” however, definitely fits within my monthly budget. Good luck to all entrants. Keep up the good work at DCT. I always look forward to receiving my Saturday newsletter.

  16. Thank you very much, and I still am using Windows XP and would like to try windowses so lucky.

  18. Nice give away. I like windows 8.1. plz include me bcos i like to upgrade my windows 7 laptop to win 8.1

  19. I review photographic software, and have computers running XP and 7 — but more and more, people will be running the software I review on Windows 8.x, and I need that to assess how programs will run in that environment. I’ll probably use it on my main computer in a dual-boot setup.

  20. I already run Windows 8.1, but if I won I would give it to one of my clients who is still running Windows XP.

  21. i would like windows 8 so i can give it a try im curious as to see if its any good

  23. Louis R. McClain

I can’t afford Win 7 or Win 8, I figured I just make due with the Old XP 3. This sure would make a nice late Birthday Present!

  24. Thank You for the good work. I learn a lot here. I had a pre-release version of win 8.1 from Microsoft and when it expired it went away. I would like to have the released version but can’t justify the cost.
