Every storage device has a finite lifespan – unfortunately – and the common hard drive and SSD are no exception to this rule. Fortunately for us both devices can be monitored for signs of failure using S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) and everyone should have a tool to do so in their virtual tech toolbox. Hard Disk Sentinel is one of those tools.

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional
When you open Hard Disk Sentinel Professional you will see the main window, which will present an overview of all the drives installed on your computer along with temperature and health ratings from drives which provide that information. .
Clicking the Temperature tab will show temperature details for whichever drive you select in the left column. You can also set thresholds from here that will trigger notifications or perform other actions chosen by you.
The following tab shows the raw S.M.A.R.T. data from the drive selected in the left column and allows you to ignore or adjust how the program uses the data.
The information tab shows detailed information about the selected drive including controller, model, size, and much more!
The Logs tab shows any problems logged since the program was installed. Luckily everything looks good on my computer!
The Disk Performance tab allows you to see Read and Write performance of the selected drive.
Finally the Alerts tab shows any alerts for the selected drive the program has read that could be cause for alarm.
This is just a small sample of Hard Disk Sentinel’s features. In addition to the above it can conduct thorough self testing of drives, surface tests, seek time tests, emergency backup of critical files, and much much more! I have used the Standard version for a few weeks now. It help me to see if I have hardware problems with my drive. I have a good overview from the main window. See the temperature and the free space, the health condition of my drives too. It is available in several languages. It is very good – I can recommend it.
One of my hobbies is to translate Shareware programs to my native language (german). I start my PC experience in the 90th, with DOS 4.

Thanks for making the Standard edition available through Bitsdujour. Over the past 20 plus years, I have used at least a dozen or more applications which were intended to monitor the hard drive systems installed on various systems. Unfortunately, each had significant deficiencies and therefore proved to be less helpful than would be needed to maintain these devices.
Since installing HD Sentinel, I have been impressed with the scope of its design, coverage of all monitoring modules needed to maintain my installed hard drives, with promises of enhancements in the PRO version.
A worthy tool which I look forward to using in the days to come.
I can’t comment on the software as I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but would love to win a Pro license.

If you take a look a all the feedback from people purchasing hard disks from the online stores it is really scary.
Nowadays, it is not a question of if but really when you hard disk is going to fail.
Had a OS drive with some data fail on me once. It was such a pain!! I don’t ever want to go down that road again.
Having a software like Hard Disk Sentinel that alerts and warns you when a hard disk is failing should be part of everyone’s bag of tools.
Excellent Program, Would love to have a lifetime license. Had a hard drive go out a few months back it could have helped with.

Awesome product, used it a couple of months back would recommend it to anyone.
We have been using this several months on two computers. It seems to give a good early warning of drive problems. I wish there was as good of a predictor for other component failure. Should we win we will protect another computer of ours.

I’m using the Standard version at the moment. It just alerted me 2 days ago that one of my 2T external drives had a problem. It was overheating for some reason. I ran it through some of the diagnostics with HDS, and found that the drive was failing. As I had just lost a 1T before I started using this program that was completely *packed* (I think I had maybe 200Mb left of free space on it…lol), I was very glad that HDS made me aware there was an issue before I lost everything (yet again) to a dying disk. I just got everything backed up onto yet another external drive when the one that HDS had alerted me about completely bit the dust. I’m *so so happy* that I now have a way of knowing beforehand when there’s a problem with one of my drives (I have 4 internals and 7 externals; a little overkill some might say, but, I do a **lot** of graphic work, and I need the space!).
