  1. But you’re giving them your email address, and they will use it. They don’t spam as such, but they will try to give you regular special deals on their stuff.
I tried one of their programs (paid) years ago and found that it is indeed adware. I can’t comment on the performance issue as I would only experiment on virtual machines however the bottom line is:

I wouldn’t install ashampoo anything on my computer and I’m not even going to see what the hell it does to my hair. I assume disaster all around.
I did try to download this again, but it was flagged as a PUP.

Jokes aside, it’s my job to test crap like this which is how I ended up in that boat.

      Hi Brian,

I understand where you’re coming from. And, yes, they do ask for an email address. I’m sure you could use a temporary address.
And, you can opt out of any promotional notifications. It isn’t difficult.

It makes sense that Ashampoo would want to promote its own products – that’s business.

Calling Ashampoo’s programs “crap” is not fair. Its software is perfectly fine and I use some of them and am happy with the results.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one,
      Richard

      1. OK I understand.
I still am questioning the push for Ashampoo software here.
I have an honest question: Does DCT get a monetary incentive to do that? If so, are you promoting adware that you are against?
Seeing DCT is not a business and all?
Not trying to be anti DCT just curious.

          Hi Brian,

We do not receive monetary compensation for any of the giveaway contests we run nor did we receive any recompense for this article. WinOptimizer is a long-running series and popular with our readers.

We promote only software that we believe to be of good quality and Ashampoo products have always lived up to that standard.

Personally, I think calling Ashampoo software “adware” is misleading and ill-informed.

          Richard

  2. Brian. I use and trust several Ashampoo products. My favourite is the Uninstaller. If you want, you can opt-out of receiving promos using the unsubscribe. And, I installed their AntiSpy program, the free edition, and it helps tame much of the cr*p which Windows uses to gather their marketing information, Mindblower!
