I never tried to get a Netflix account because I assumed you needed a credit card to sign up. Something I’m lacking. But as it turns out, you don’t. You can do it with “Netflix gift cards”.
My Brother recently gave me a card, so I ran it through to see what would happen.
Unfortunately, it did not occur to me at the time to take notes and screenshots. A missed opportunity to show you how to set up an account. Here is basically what I did.
I clicked the “Netflix” button on my remote to start the app on my cable box. I clicked on sign-up and followed through. I had to enter my email address, and they sent me an email with a link to finish setting up my account.
At the payment options, I selected the “Gift Card” option. Type in your card code here. You have to scratch it off first. My first attempt to enter my code said invalid code. I eventually figured out why. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY SPACES.
Anyway, it finally went through, and I now have Netflix.
To add more funds with gift cards, do the following. Go to your Netflix account and sign in.
You’ll see the “Who’s watching” page. Click on the main profile. In my case, my own.
On the next page, click on your profile icon in the top right corner and then click on “Account”.
On your “Membership” page, click “Membership” on the left menu.
Then scroll down until you see “Redeem gift or promo code”.
On the next page, type in the code from your card and click “Redeem”.
Remember, NO SPACES.
On the next screen, click on “Apply to My Account”.
Then you’ll get a message saying “Credit applied”. They will send you a confirmation email of this transaction.
“Start Watching”.
One thing I noticed when I first signed up was that they give you a “PayPal” option. I did not add my account at this time. I’m going to stick with the cards right now. And that is it. Money in the bank, or in this case, your Netflix account.
