WWDC – New MacBook Airs

This is the fourth in a series of articles related to Apple’s WWDC 2013.

Apple CEO Tim Cook and company took the stage at the Moscone West convention center in San Francisco on Monday, June 10th for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Phil Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, took to the stage to introduce a new generation of MacBook Airs, available now.

The latest MacBook Airs are all about speed and performance. They are sporting the 4th-generation Intel Core processor, the Haswell ULT. This processor provides high performance with longer battery life, thanks to the new power-efficient Intel Core architecture. Battery life goes from 5 hours to up to 9 n hours for the 11-inch MacBook Air and from 7 hours to up to 12 hours for the 13-inch model. Standby mode will conserve the battery life for up to 30 days. For iTunes movies, you’ll get up to 8 hours of playback on the 11-inch and up to 10 hours on the 13-inch model.

The MacBook Air supports 802.11 ac Wi-Fi. When connected to an 802.11ac base station, it delivers wireless performance three times faster than its 802.11n. Apple’s new Airport Extreme now supports 802.11ac as does its new Airport Time Capsule, a cross between the Airport Extreme and the Time Capsule.

The price for the 11-inch model is unchanged at $999 even though the flash storage has been increased from 64 GB to 128 GB. The price for the 13-inch model, also with 128 GB of flash storage, has dropped from $1,199 to $1,099. Both models have 4 GB of memory.
