This is the fifth, and last, in a series of articles related to Apple’s WWDC 2013.
The Mac Pro is the most powerful member of Apple’s desktop offerings. The Mac Pro has undergone a radical redesign from the ho-hum rather large rectangular box to a sleek, small black cylinder. After showing a video to unveil the new look, Schiller quipped, “Can’t innovate anymore, my a**!”, much to the delight of the very enthusiastic crowd, in reference to the innovation that some say Apple has lacked in the post-Steve Jobs era.
The new Mac Pro is faster is just about every way when compared to its predecessor. Its Intel Xeon processor is two times faster. Its ECC memory is two times faster as well. Now sporting flash storage, the new Mac Pro’s storage is ten times faster than any hard drive in a Mac Pro before. The Thunderbolt 2 is two times faster and the original Thunderbolt. Its dual workstation graphical processing units (GPUs) are 2.5 times faster than before. In addition, the Mac Pro will support up to three 4K displays. At one-eighth the size of the its predecessor, this is one smokin’ machine.
The new Mac Pro, assembled in the US, will be available later this year. No pricing information was provided at WWDC.
