With or Without U2 – How To Remove U2’s Free Album

U2 performed at the end of September 9th’s iPhones and Apple Watch announcement.  After their performance, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that U2’s latest album, Songs of Innocence, would be free to all iTunes subscribers. To that end, the album was automatically added to subscribers’ iTunes libraries.

Apparently, not every one of the half billion of iTunes subscribers is a fan of U2 or of having unsolicited content downloaded to their device. If a subscriber has automatic downloads enabled (Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads > Music), the album was downloaded automatically to their device.

If you are one of the unhappy subscribers or just not a U2 fan, Apple has provided an easy way for you to remove the album from your music library. It has set up a webpage with a one-click removal button. By clicking on this button, the album will be removed from your music library and iTunes purchases. If you have a change of heart, you can still download it for free from the iTunes Store until October 13th. If you decide that you regret removing the album after that, you will be too late and will have to purchase it.
