Using Windows 10 Voice Recorder

I came across an old microphone and hooked it up to my computer to test it out. The first program that came to mind was to use the sound recorder, assuming Windows 10 still included it. In the search bar,  I started typing sound recorder but then the Voice Recorder option popped up. I clicked on it in the menu.

Using The Voice Recorder

It opened to an almost blank window with the words Voice Recorder in the top left corner, three dots representing an options menu in the bottom right corner and a round purple icon in the center with a picture of a microphone. This is the record button. Click to start and click again to stop.

The options menu gives you About, Send feedback and Microphone settings.

I clicked on the record button,  muttered some words, then clicked on it again to stop the recording. Then it advanced to the next screen.

The record button was moved over to the left-hand side. Next to it was a list of recordings (only one in my case). To the right were a play button and a timer bar. Towards the bottom, you have a few more options. You can Share it, Trim it, Delete it, or Rename it.

Share

This only gives an option to share with Skype.

Trim

This allows you to cut out a portion of a recording you want to save rather than the whole thing. Just set the Start and Endpoints and click on the Save icon.

Rename

Rename the clip if desired, then click on the Rename button.

More Options

These include About, Send feedback, Microphone settings, and Open file location.

You can go to the Microphone settings if you are having problems. Make sure the App(s) you want to use have access to your microphone (at least the voice recorder, in this case). My recording was saved in the following folder: C:\Users\Terry\Documents\Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App\Sound recordings and it was called Recording.m4a.

    1. I’m not aware of any limits. I guess as long as your hard drive space holds up, the sky is the limit.

  1. I had not thought to look for this. Sounds simple and easy and apparently you were satisfied with results. Thanks for the heads up.

Your welcome. Voice (sound recorder) has been around for a while now. Windows 10 gave it a bit of an upgrade.
