In the normal search you indicate the start of a special character by using the caret (^) followed by the character that indicates what your search is for. For example, when searching for a paragraph symbol (pilcrow), you would search for ^p.
When you are using the matching capability however, you cannot use all the special characters that you normally would. You should, rather, use the workarounds shown below:
Please note that the endnote and footnote workaround is exactly the same, which means you cannot differentiate between these characters when pattern searching.
You also cannot search for a field (^d) when using pattern matching.
