Transfer Kodi Settings To Another Computer

Their website bills Kodi as “the ultimate Entertainment center“. You can use it as your media player and download apps to watch TV programs, movies, etc.

Warning: The legitimacy of some of these add-ons is debatable. Use at your discretion.

Download and install Kodi from here.  The latest version is “Kodi 21.1 Omega”.

(Ed note: Kodi is a free and open-source media player developed by the Kodi Foundation, a non-profit technology consortium.)

I have had this program on my systems for a while now but rarely use it. Getting the add-ons to work is a hit-or-miss operation. I did get a few to work over the years with the latest one called “Doomzday”.

The instructions to install doomzday can be found here.

I installed this on my main system hooked up to my dual monitor setup. My monitors include an “HP LP1965 at 19 inches (48.26 cm)” and an “HP S2031 at 20 inches (50.80 cm)”. I want to copy Kodi to my “CyberPowerPC” because it’s hooked up to my TV – 42 inches (106.68 cm). I’m now spoiled and want all my monitors this big. 🙂

Once you have Kodi installed and customized you may want to set it up on a second computer the same way. The easiest way to do this is to copy Kodi to the second computer.

First download and install Kodi on all systems.

Then you have to set your computers to see hidden files and folders.

Type “File Explorer Options” in search without the quotes. Click on it when it shows in the menu.

On the Folder Options window click on the “View” tab. In the “Advanced settings” box scroll to the “Hidden files and folders” section.

Check “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)”. You’ll get a warning, if I remember correctly click on “Yes” to accept the changes.

Now go to “C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\” on the computer with the main install of Kodi. Copy the files and folders from that folder to the appropriate folder on your second system.

I copied the entire folder through my network to my second computer. Then on my Cyberpowerpc, I highlighted all the files and folders in the Kodi folder, the one just copied over and right-clicked on them and then I clicked on copy.  Then I pasted them to the \AppData\Roaming\Kodi\ folder on this system. When it asked to overwrite files I said Yes.

Now the final test. Open up Kodi and see if it works. It works. The transplant was a success. 🙂
