Revo Uninstaller To The Rescue

My nephew had problems with AVG antivirus. He doesn’t know how it got on his system. He mentioned CCleaner so I had a hunch. Watch the install screens carefully. Be sure to uncheck any unwanted software. AVG kept crashing and made the system unusable. The first thing that came to mind was to try a program called “Revo Uninstaller”. I wrote about this program before here: How To Use Revo Uninstaller

He managed to download it but still couldn’t use it. I then instructed him on how to get into “Safe mode”. Read here: Windows 10 Quick Tips 2 Ways To Safe Mode

Using Revo, we were able to remove AVG in Safe Mode. When he rebooted and confirmed AVG was gone he mentioned he had a second problem. He couldn’t get the software to work that allowed him to control the settings of his webcam.

He uninstalled and re-installed the software, but no luck. Again, I suggested using Revo. Sorry, I can’t remember the name of the software used but using Revo to remove all the bits and pieces normally left behind by the traditional uninstall process did the trick.

AVG is gone and he can now adjust the settings of his webcam.

  1. I have Revo Uninstaller Pro. It does NOT remove all traces of the uninstalled program. Why? Go to Regedit and type the program’s name in “Find” it will find a lot of keys left behind. Not a foolproof piece of software??

You mention Revo Uninstaller and I have used it successfully in the past however I find it has one failing. Unless I am missing something in its options you can only uninstall one file at a time. I came across HiBit Unistaller and you can select a batch of files and just wait for them all to finish. It is very fast and very thorough but each time I have had to install/reinstall it it comes up with a danger warning, especially if Malwarebytes is on the sysem. I have had to jump through hoops to find a way to by-pass the warnings and accept the consequences but I have never yet detected any sort of computer probem after its installation.

Yes, the free version will only allow you to remove one program at a time. I haven’t tried HiBit Uninstaller. I might give it a shot. Thanks for your comments.

  3. Yes. That`s correct. You can only uninstall one program at a time. as I said earlier. Revo Does NOT remove everything. I also use Wise uninstaller-FREE. it is quite good. No uninstaller removes every item. whether it’s reg keys, files, or folders.

    1. To Brian and all who use free uninstallers. Ashampoo Uninstaller (the registered versions) do remove all traces, reg keys, files, and folders. You are prompted prior to doing this option, Mindblower!

  4. Try this after uninstalling. type the name of the program that you have removed, into regedit “Find’. Chances are. There will be leftovers. These uninstallers don’t, in my experience, remove everything.

    1. Hi Brian. Sorry to firmly disagree with you, but I decided to test the latest program I uninstalled, named “FxSound”. What I am extremely happy to report is that there was no trace of that program in the registry, Mindblower!

      1. Hello Mblower.
Yes. It sometimes happens. The developer has minimizedthe installation files, and the uninstaller works correctly. Leaving no traces at all. But. Having said that. 90% of installed programs, leave behind residual registry entries and empty folders.
