A couple of days ago I thought my printer was a goner. I have a Canon Pixma MX492 and I tried to print something but I got the error message suggesting my printer wasn’t on. I assumed it was because I could see the little green power indicator light was on.
Upon further inspection, the power light was on but there was no information showing on the little LCD screen and I couldn’t even turn it off. So I unplugged the power cord and about after a minute I plugged it in again. The power light went off but when I turned it on again, the same results.
So, I went online and the only suggestion that I could find was to keep it unplugged for about 5 minutes. So I did. A couple of times. Still nothing. So I assumed this printer was history.
I even started searching online for a replacement. I wanted the exact same model because I recently purchased two new ink cartridges and the colour one wasn’t even open.
I found one on this website: Inkjetsuperstore
It’s the same place I buy my ink from. And no, this is not a paid endorsement. It’s just where I buy my ink.
I was going to wait overnight and place an order if I couldn’t get it to work by morning. So I unplugged it again and this time I also unplugged the USB cord.
OK, I didn’t wait overnight. I got a little impatient after about 15 or 20 minutes. I decided to give it another try. I plugged in the power, turned it on, and have never been so grateful to hear the whirring sound – the one printers make when they are first turned on. The display was showing and I decided to print something.
It still didn’t work. I forgot to plug in the USB. 🙂 Now everything is working fine.
