I usually have a bunch of HTML files on my system for one reason or another. When I double-click on one it would open in my default browser, Opera.
After the last update, that stopped. Instead, I was getting a blank screen and in the URL or web address bar, I was getting the message Startup URL blocked. I clicked on it to see what it was about.
Then I got this message Shortcut trying to open a link. I checked Remember my choice and then Open. I thought that was the end of it but it still happens every time, even when I open the exact same file.
Here’s how to disable this latest nuisance from Opera. Go to settings, (Alt + P), or (Ctrl + F12), or type this in the address bar: opera://settings
In the search bar type on startup. It should take you directly to the setting.
Toggle the switch by clicking it on by the Ask me when Opera is started by a shortcut specifying an URL.
I don’t know if this is a new setting or an old one that Opera decided to enable by default. And I wasn’t clicking on shortcuts but actual HTML files. Anyway, until the next update breaks something… 🙂
