Rockstar Games launched the GTA 6 trailer about 18 hours ago (at the time of writing this) and it’s already racked up a record 78 million views on YouTube, such is the voracious appetite for the new game, as outlined in my recent article GTA 6 Trailer Arriving Early December.
It’s clear that the developers are moving with the times and for the first time in the long-running series, one of the protagonists is female and teamed up with a male character which gives off Bonnie and Clyde vibes, although in the new game, they are Lucia and Jason.
This should come as no surprise to anyone since female protagonists abound nowadays in so many video games and I welcome the change. One assumes then, that the player can choose to play as either character.
Although the trailer is short at only 90 seconds, it’s quite clear that an amazing amount of detail is being crammed into the world of Vice City, Leonida, which of course bears an uncanny resemblance to Miami, Florida – but any similarities to that illustrious city are purely coincidental, right? I’m pleased to see that a variety of vehicles will be available – numerous police cars, a huge variety of custom cars, bikes, boats, container ships, aeroplanes, and probably loads of lethal weapons. Social media is also very much present in the trailer which shows the game will be set in the present, with all our Instagram selfie-obsessions evident.
When Will GTA VI Be Released?
All we know from the official Rockstar Games website is that it is set to be released for consoles in 2025 and if our experience of GTA V is anything to go by, it’s likely to get a PC release no earlier than 2027, so that’s a long wait. It’s also worth mentioning that in the eight years since GTA V was released on PC in 2015, hardware and software have moved on in light years, and for that game, the recommended system requirements were quite meagre at an Intel Core i5/AMD FX 8350, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB/AMD HD7870 2GB and 65GB of disk space. Expect the recommended PC requirements to be considerably higher than what we have at the moment, which will probably be a catalyst for some major hardware upgrades nearer the time. This is a relief, because it will probably give me time to save up a few cents and perhaps move on from my current AM4 setup!
Oh, and before I forget, here’s the GTA VI trailer – enjoy!
