The main weakness of Microsoft SkyDrive has always been the lack of any desktop app, with access available only via the web – up until now that is.
As of 23rd April that has all changed. Microsoft has finally released a Windows (and Mac) app that integrates SkyDrive into your system. So you can now access and manage your SkyDrive content locally, and it will all be automatically synced to your other computers/devices too.
“Think about all of the different devices you use every day. Wouldn’t it be nice if your files came with you, whether you’re on your phone, Mac, or PC?
When you use SkyDrive, you’ll never be without the documents, notes, photos, and videos that matter to you. Store anything on your SkyDrive and it’s automatically available from your trusted devices—no syncing or cables needed.
When you download SkyDrive on your PC or Mac, your desktop SkyDrive folder is automatically created. Any file or photo you put in this folder will be automatically synced to your other devices that have SkyDrive.”

NOTES:
- If you don’t already have a Windows Live ID, you will need to create one.
- Also, be aware that Microsoft has cut the storage allowance for new accounts, so you will get 7GB for free instead of the previous 25GB – existing account holders will be given the opportunity to upgrade from 7GB to the original 25GB for free, just follow the prompts.
