Apple released an update to iTunes on Thursday. The biggest news is that, with iTunes 11.0.1, the ability to show duplicates is back. Often cited as sorely missing from iTunes 11, it’s good to have it back. Show Duplicate Items lets you show any duplicate songs in your library. It’s an easy way to clean up your library by getting rid of duplicates. Whether a song is a duplicate or not depends solely on the song title. If you have the same song from different albums, it will show up as a duplicate.
STEP 1: To show duplicates, go to the View menu and select ‘Show Duplicate Items‘.
STEP 2: If you want to delete a song, select it and hit the ‘Delete‘ key.
STEP 3: To delete the song, click on ‘Delete Song‘.
STEP 4: To get back to your full library, click on ‘Display All‘ at the bottom of the screen or go to the View menu and select ‘Show All Items‘.
‘Show Duplicate Items‘ can also be used for other media types such as movies or TV shows.
Also included in the update are a few bug fixes:
— An issue where new purchases in iCloud may not appear in your library if iTunes Match is turned on has been fixed.
— iTunes is more responsive when searching a large library,
— A problem where the AirPlay button may not appear as expected has been fixed.
Stability and performance improvements are included as well.
