How to Set the Width of Row Labels in Excel

Sometimes you just have gigantor Excel worksheets – there’s no getting around it! Now if, in your gigantor worksheet you also have graphs based on your data, you may find that at some point when you are scrolling through your worksheet that redrawing of your graph(s) will greatly slow down your scrolling. Now if you could find a way to set a width for row labels, you could avoid this issue!

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Display the Options dialog box by clicking the File button and then click Options.
  2. Click Advanced on the left-hand side.
  3. Scroll through the options until you see Display Options for this Worksheet.
  4. Be certain the Show Row and Column Headers check box is selected.

  1. Click on OK.

Now, Excel will not display your row headers at the left side of your screen. If you absolutely have to have row numbers, you could always insert a blank column A and then insert what would be your row numbers. You can make this column as wide a you like so there will not be any redrawing as you scroll.
