How To See Formatting Inconsistencies In Word

For some time now, Word has had the capability for checks of both spelling and grammar as you work in your document.

Formatting Inconsistencies

Spelling errors are noted with a wavy red underline, potential grammar errors with a wavy green underline, and formatting inconsistencies with wavy blue underlines. This last option, to check formatting inconsistencies, is not turned on by default. If you would like Word to notify you of these potential mistakes, follow these steps:

  1. Click File | Options to display the Word Options dialog box
  2. At the left side of the dialog box click Advanced

  1. In the Editing Options section, select Keep Track of Formatting
  2. Be sure Mark Formatting Inconsistencies is selected
  3. Click OK

You should now be notified of any formatting inconsistencies.
