How To Format Superscript/Subscript In Word 365

So what exactly is a superscript or subscript? I like to explain what something is so that we are all on the same page before I tell you how to work with it in Word. So here we go. A superscript or a subscript is a number, figure, symbol, or indicator of some sort, that is smaller than your normal text. A superscript is set slightly above it and a subscript is set slightly below it. You usually see these superscripts and subscripts used with copyright or some other symbol where you would like it to appear a bit above your text. Another example would be using a subscript when adding footnotes or something of that sort that you would like to be slightly below the rest of your text. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s learn how to format them.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. In your document, select the text or number that you would like to format.
  2. To format as a  superscript, press Ctrl | Shift | Plus sign (+) simultaneously.
  3. To format a  subscript, press Ctrl | Equal sign (=) simultaneously.

Another method of doing this is using options in the Font dialog box.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Select the text that you would like to format as superscript/subscript.
  2. Click on the Home tab of your Ribbon.
  3. In the Font group, click on  Font Dialog Launcher.
  4. In the Effects group, make your selection whether it be superscript or subscript.

Easy peasy!
