A while ago I remember having some computer issues that I couldn’t solve except when someone mentioned online about removing some codec packs. I don’t remember what problems I was having but I remember that removing the installed codec packs at the time solved the problem.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been having problems with my mouse. Every other click would bring up the right-click menu even though I wasn’t right-clicking.
I uninstalled the drivers for the mouse, tried plugging it into different ports, used different mice, ran the scanners for malware, and used “SFC” and the “DISM” options, but nothing cleared it up.
I was thinking about a reset of the system but I didn’t want to go that route. So it came to me out of the blue about the codec problems of the past.
I had the K-Lite Codec Pack installed on my systems for years. But I decided to uninstall it to see if that was the issue. Then I restarted the system and so far it seems to have worked. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.
The only downside of removing the codecs is that some videos in File Explorer will not show you a thumbnail and only the media player icon (in my case, VLC). I have no plans to reinstall the codecs unless I need them.

I have had problems with the touchpad during a few weeks.
First, the power connection with a “jack” plug could no more be used for the cable was damaged by the support, a ventilation pad that appeared not to be so adapted as I thought.
I had a USB-C power unit, that was able to be used immediately, with the advantage that the cable goes out at right angle, so is not in contact with the ventilation pad that appears to have cutting edges. Unfortunately, there has been a cable problem too, perhaps it was a little too short.
I quickly found another USB-C power unit from a vendor in my street, but then the problem with the mouse cursor moving erratically began.
I spoke about it to the computer vendor, he knew about it and sent me a link to the documentation, he sent me another USB-C power unit, that solved the problem.
I do not know exactly what the problem was, the vendor told me the power unit had to be connected to the ground, but in fact the one he sent me is not.
By the way, I have K-Lite Codec Pack installed on my Windows 11, and I already used it on Windows 10. It includes MPC-HC, that shows videos including a few ones with which other software had problems.
I just displayed a few seconds of an MP4 video, of a webp one, and of a mkv one, and the mouse cursor seemed to move smoothly, using the touchpad.
Is there a way to uninstall the codec just used by the mouse or must you uninstall the whole pack?
I have a mouse issue where highlighting text (for a copy/paste) is sporadic: sometimes highlighting what I want but most of the time random picking and choosing what gets highlighted.

I am afraid we did not browse the whole question.
Somebody observed he had the problem and it disappeared after uninstalling K-Lite Codecs Pack, but I do not remember reading the details of it, which way K-Lite Codecs Packs modified the position of the mouse (and potentially clicked anywhere). So this does not help to imagine another solution.
On my side I had a problem with a certain power supply, on USB C port, with Dasharo start menu (that is loaded before the operating system, and for instance takes care of selecting another starting device).

At that moment I had not heared about K-Lite Codecs Pack, so I did not have the idea to test without it, before changing the charger.
If we come to the idea it can help better apprehend the problem, maybe I shall.

I too had the K-Lite Codec Pack installed, but that was years. Had it uninstalled when I installed VLC player. It has all codes builtin so no need for another program. Believe I too had some issues, yet memory fades over time. Cannot believe folks still need to use codes packs, Mindblower!
