How To Fix Hyperlinks In Microsoft Word 365

Some of us (ME) learn the hard way. In my earlier years, I noticed that when copying and pasting URLs or hyperlinks from a web browser, Word would automatically convert them to hyperlinks or active link that points to another place. It could be anywhere on the Web, within the same document, or another document on my computer.

Some say that this autoformatting is a blessing. Well, I am here to tell you that it can be a curse just as well.

Blessing: Copying and pasting a URL will save you time and ensure you have not made any errors.

Curse: You have just copied an ugly and unreadable link for everyone.

Follow the steps below to fix your ugly hyperlink:

  1. Right-click on the URL you have just pasted.
  2. Select Edit Hyperlink which will open the Edit Hyperlink window.
  3. In the Edit Hyperlink window, you can change the display text by replacing the text that appears inside the Text to display area.
  4. To add a ScreenTip, click on ScreenTip and a separate window will open wherein you can key in the text that will appear when users hover over or select your link.
  5. Once you are finished keying in the display text and ScreenTip, click OK.

Your hyperlinks will be formatted and function as hyperlinks. The only difference is they will be a lot easier to read for all people.
