How To Create User-Friendly Links In Edge

The Edge browser did not start off life well but, when Microsoft finally recognized the power of Chromium and introduced its new Chromium-based browser, the software giant really kicked a goal. I have been using Chromium Edge as my default browser for about eight months now, after being a Firefox user for many years, and have found it to be an excellent browser. Microsoft continues to add useful features to its browser and one of these features, which I admit I only recently discovered, is so clever yet simple one has to wonder why something similar is not available in all browsers.

Easily Create User-Friendly Links In Edge

When you copy a URL (web address) from the address bar in Edge you can choose to create an alternative user-friendly link to share with friends and family or on social media. Here are a few examples:

URL Example

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255090527107?hash=item3b64948b83:g:MqoAAOSwzMphFhnf
becomes

To change the URL (web address) copy and paste function to create user-friendly links: Go to Settings > Share, copy and paste and under “URL copy & paste format default” select the Link option:

If you ever need to copy and paste the true URL just access the same setting and click (enable) the Plain text option.

Once you’ve enabled the “Link” option all you need do is copy the link from the address bar and paste it into an email message, social media post, or wherever and it will automatically display as a user-friendly link. Give it a try, I think you’ll like it.
