Richard, I have enjoyed and benefitted from the articles written and published by you, Dave, and the other contributors, but I am retired and on a small fixed income, and I honestly cannot see my way clear to contribute to the support of this website. I was discouraged by your online request to disable my ad blockers, and I resisted whitelisting you because I was concerned about the ads detracting from your valuable content. You coerced me today into whitelisting, and the result was even worse than I anticipated. (With all of the commercialism that assaulted my eyeballs and my intelligence, how do you not have enough income to run your site?) No matter; the ads’ nuisance value, to me, is far worse than the articles’ good. Goodbye all and thanks; I’m outa here!!
Hi John,
You say you are on a fixed income and “cannot see my way clear to contribute to the support of this website”. We are not asking you for any cash. We are asking that you unblock ads. Ad revenue is how we pay for the articles you deem so valuable. I have no idea how your fixed income enters into the discussion.
If the content is so “valuable” to you, then how could a few ads detract from it?
Without ads, this site could not exist. And with ads, people like you apparently don’t exist.

Yup, we are asking for support and have been for years. Requesting is a far cry from requiring. What is your problem?
Incidentally, that $250/month number was written many years ago and is severely outdated; it is easily three times that amount these days.
If you ever bothered to whitelist the sites you like to read, you would have noticed that everybody is asking for money in one form or another. Ad-based business models are quickly becoming a dying breed and a big part of that boils down to ad blockers.
I thought you said you were “outta here”.
