In 1839, the first photo of the Moon was taken by French photographer Louis Daguerre.
This is the earliest known photograph of the Moon, a daguerrotype photograph taken in 1851 by John Adams Whipple. Daguerre’s photograph was destroyed in 1839 when a fire burned his laboratory to the ground.

The most distant galaxy yet discovered was found by scientists using the Keck telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
The discovery was made by a team of astronomers from the University of California, led by Hyron Spinrad. “8C 1435+63” was estimated to be 15 billion light years away and 150,000 to 200,000 light-years across.
