In 1888, William Seward Burroughs was granted a patent for the “Calculating-Machine.”
In 1886, Burroughs was a founder of the American Arithmometer Company which, in 1904, became the Burroughs Adding Machine Company. In 1953, it became the Burroughs Corporation and in 1986, merged with Sperry Corporation to form Unisys.

In 1973, Google cofounder, Sergey Brin, was born.
As a research project at Stanford University, Brin and Larry Page created a search engine that listed results according to the popularity of the pages. They chose to name it Google after the mathematical term “Googol,” which is a 1 followed by 100 zeros, to reflect their mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the Web.
