In Vista there is a built in screen capture program called the Snipping Tool.
gazteler - That functionality isn't built into XP. Fortunately there are several good free programs with that functionality - [url=http://www.davescomputertips.com/free_pc_utility_software_system.php:38zojx21]Snapashot and Gadwin[/url:38zojx21].
If this is something that you are going to be doing a lot of I suggest you get [url=http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp:38zojx21]SnagIt[/url:38zojx21]. It's $50 but well worth the money if you need to take lots of screen captures. But, the casual user will find SnapaShot and Gadwin more than adequate!
My favorite tool is [url=http://www.jingproject.com/:2590jxaa]Jing[/url:2590jxaa]. It's Open Source (freeware) and is what I use for all the screen shots in my articles. One of the better features is that you get a free account at [url=http://www.screencast.com:2590jxaa]Screencast.com[/url:2590jxaa] where you can store your shots. Then, you can click the sharing icon and get a fully formed URL that you can use to either link to or embed your shots. Here's an embedded one:

You can also send your shots to Flickr, FTP, or create your own links. I couldn't live without it.
