Hi folks! Can anyone tell me how to replace the default XP sounds with the more melodious Vista sounds please? I have installed the Vista Codecs but the old XP jangles remain. Thank you.

Hey BallyIrish,
[quote:2orw4mpo]I have installed the Vista Codecs[/quote:2orw4mpo]
Not sure what exactly you mean. Is this supposed to be a Vista sound pack in .wav format?
If yes:
1. Go to C:WindowsMedia.
2. Backup its content (original Win XP sounds in .wav format).
3. Copy the Vista ones inside that folder.
If the files have the same names, they will overwrite the original ones and work imediately. If not, you'll have to asign them manually and save the whole as a new theme.

Vista Sound Scheme 2 1.0[/url:2orw4mpo] is supposed to do the job for you - mind though I have not used it myself, so don't know what it does. In any case, back up your original Win XP sounds before trying anything.

Good luck!

Thanks Flying Dutchman. The Vista Codecs I installed was from SHARK. I'll do some research on the matter for the fun of it and use your tip along the way. Thanks. Helping me is like teaching an old dog new tricks! I don't know the difference between a .wav and a codec. I got the Shark pack from http://www.filehippo.com and though by installing it would automatically get Vista sounds on my XP, but no such luck!

Hi BallyIrish,

Ok, now it's clear. What you got from Filehippo are [u:12v5ut93]not[/u:12v5ut93] the original Vista System Sound files.
In order to follow my instructions, you need to get the Vista System Sound files (though I'm not sure if that's entirely legal).
You could search on Devianart[/url:12v5ut93].

Cheers

Thank you Flying Dutchman. I am beginning to get an understanding of this, and I must look into the legal aspect. I dinna want to break the law, being a retired magistrate!
