I have tried for a couple of months not to get some update from Microsoft Updates. I'm using XP Office, and I do not know why the site every time says I need to download these updates. It downloads but fails to install every time. I just don't what to do. Any ideas?? Peteski

I Absolutely would Not Download the 3.5 Frame Network Update. Why, well more than a few folks and readers on other Tech. Lists reported all kinds of problems occuring after downloading and installing .Net 3.5. They still recommend, even though some time has passed since Net. 3.5 was released, to not install .Net 3.5/Family....
Speaking for myself, I believe .Net has turned out to be One Nasty Ole' Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. Back some months ago, I had all kinds of problems after installing an upgrade for Net 1.0 -1.1. One was required to uninstall the old version before installing the new. Well, the information from Microsoft on how to do the un-install resulted in my having a kind-a, sort-a un-stall (Which meant I had stuff that did not un-install. Result, I was not initially able to install the update. The fix required some digging in the Registry which this gal, who will never be mistaken as a Geekette', avoids like a sidewinder.
Thank goodness for a friend who is Puter' Geek. They fixed the problem and their advice was to avoid .Net when at all possible. Oh, the Puter' Geek friend happens to work for MS. Go Figure !?!?
AND.... Appears that .Net Framework is causing problems or so "no Scripts" indicates.

If you decide to install those updates manually, start with this page from MS Technet http://www.microsoft.com/techn.....rrent.aspx
Unfortunately for DOTNET holdouts, more and more developers are using it to write software. Versions 1.1, 2, and even 3.0sp1 are fairly benign, but 3.5 gave my network fits and got uninstalled the same day.
A couple of suggestions for twpspirit:
Revo Uninstaller is good for cleaning out all the usual suspects that Add/Remove doesn't. Check it out at http://www.revouninstaller.com/
Belarc Advisor gives you a nice snapshot of what's on your machine. It will alert you to needed security updates and link directly to them. I always update via the IT Professional route; allows you to find out whether or not you really need something.
