I have Auto Updates set at "download updates but let me choose when to install them" but lately they download and install themselves. What's up?

this sounds like a case of "I told you one thing but I registered another" - very common in Microsoft.

To resolve this, go into your Automatic Updates settings and select another option (Notify but don't download, for example). Hit OK, then go back into the Automatic Updates and select the setting you want, hit OK.

That should do 'er for ya.

This thread may be dead, but here's another approach that I like. I've disabled WU on all my machines. MS is very patronizing about deciding for you, imho. I use Belarc Advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html to periodically check for updates. When it shows missing patches, I select the link to the patch and avoid the end user link to WU. Following the IT Pro link takes me to the download, etc., etc. Stuff the patches into a desktop folder and send 'em to the other machines in my small network.
Oh yeah, I NEVER install anything without System restore and a registry backup first.
