I am trying to trouble shoot an issue I am having with my laptop with Vista on it. As I try to come up I can see a # on lines in blue but it does not stay on the screen so I cannot see the info as to why I cannot reboot.

My question is - is there any way I can get to see those lines in blue so I can see what is going on? Maybe some type of log or something.

Thanks for any support you can provide.

You have more issues than rebooting if you are still running Vista.

Yes, I truly understand that. However, at this time I would just like to get the Laptop up and running and then upgrade to Win 10 down the road.

Can you answer the question about the blue screen that appears in the background that I need to slow down so I can see the error messages?

Thanks again for any help you can provide!

Without some kind of a screenshot, then my best advice would be to toggle the F8 key at boot and try to boot into safe mode. Some Vista era PC's can run W10 but the one's I have dealt with do not run it very well. Linux Mint would be a better option., and cheaper. Why do you have to have Vista booting just to upgrade the PC?

OK, I did find out that I needed a CMOS Battery which I ordered over the Internet. I guess my next question is what would be the best WIN OS for my Dell Latitude E6400?

W10 Home Edition is about the only Windows OS option you have.

A word of advice, learned the hard way! W10 does not support all the CPU's that Vista ran on, Intel and AMD. So download the W10 update assistance and run it, it will sometimes catch the CPU if it isn't compatible. Good Luck!!!

Ok I installed the new CMOS battery and that did not work. I am still getting the blue screen of death in the background where I cannot seem to get to see the info it goes by really quick and I cannot pause the system. So I get all the boot options but it continues to go to that screen only with Safe Mode options to reboot along with Start Windows Normally.

Any ideas on how I can somehow get the system into log mode where it will log everything that comes out? I really need to see the info that the Blue screen of death that comes out in the background.

Thanks for any support you can provide.

Do you have a system image or backup stored away somewhere for this machine, or maybe you could try and reset it with the factory reset if it is still on the machine?

My issue is I need to find out what that blue screen message is.

Could you possible get someone else to take a look at this issue?

I would really appreciate it!

Thanks for your support!
