tried to open a .jpg scanned image and saw above error. Googled it and finally opted to not download a fresh copy but to repair Win 7 Ult. SP1. Still no luck - no vcomp100.dll. Searched my PC for vcomp100.dll - no results.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, please.

Was the jpg image scanned locally... in other words, did you use your own scanner to scan the image and save to hard drive?

If so, please describe your scanner; is it a stand-alone scanner or combination scanner/printer, make and model number please??

Are you getting the same message for all scanned jpg images or just when trying to open that particular one?

Please get back with the answers to those questions and we'll take it from there,
Cheers... Jim

Hiya Jim,

Thanks for your response and sorry about the tardy reply.

My Scanner is a standalone Epson 4490 Photo, plugged directly into front panel USB socket. Downloaded latest drivers from Epson. Haven't used it much - not at all in last three years.

The original objective of this scan was to permit me to edit a PDF form crappily formatted (ancient Word 95?) text in text boxes (not my doing!!). Cannot be opened by WIN7 image reader (above error message) and cannot be read correctly by OpenOffice even when converted to Word by Acrobat. However, online conversion to .docx proved a neat work-around to fix that. I have now happily completed editing the PDF document, but the scanning problem remains. BREAKING NEWS....Ashampoo Photo Commander reads the scanned files perfectly!!! I have no idea why and care less - until the next time.
