How old is the graphics card? The driver included with the installation disc may well be out-of-date. Try downloading and installing the latest driver direct from the manufacturer.

What is the make and model of the card?

May I suggest he installs Piriform's Speccy and it should inform him what is on his machine. It can be found here, http://www.piriform.com/speccy

No need for that, the make and model of the graphics card will be listed in Device Manager under Display Adapters.

The auto update took care of the problem

32-bit or 64-bit shouldn't make any difference to your internet speed. How are you connecting to the net - wired through a router, wireless dongle, cable?

Machine is hardwired to the router.
The logon takes a very long time. I get a notice that I am using a temp profile. All docs, shortcuts etc are gone when I login. How do I fix that.
Thanks Jim

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
You might navigate to this registry key and see if their is more than one entry in your profile list.

I have previously deleted the longstring without the .bak
No real change here after on logon back to the same problem.
How about a repair install ?

From what I know about this error is this. The .bak is your original profile, your machine is having issues with this profile and creating a temp profile. You do not delete the temp profile, you just rename it to a .temp on the end and rename the .bak profile by removing the .bak.
You may also have to run chkdsk /f C: or what ever your drive letter is or chose the HDD properties and run chkdsk from the tools tab. I am going to send a link to a website that explains this better.

You are not the only one that has dealt with a temp profile issue when running Vista or W7.

chkdsk fixed the problem!
One last (i hope) issue. Now the 64 bit OS is the default boot. How to change back to the 32 OS?

You can do that several ways Terry but the simplest is probably via msconfig.

Open a Run window (Windows + R keys), type in msconfig and click OK.

In the System Configuration utility, open the Boot tab, highlight the operating system you want to make default and then click the Set as default button.

Close out by clicking Apply then OK.

Thank You. Glad we could help. Just remember that everyone running W7 only have a couple of more years of MS support. I am slowly moving all programs that will run on W10 to W10.
