I have a new Acer Win 10 Home v1909. Currently it is using WiFi, I have an older Desktop (Win 10) in basement that is Ethernet only. My new Acer has an Ethernet port because I have a program that requires Ethernet (Tivo TV).

I have read that Win 10 changed how to set up Home Network or eliminated it. When I plug the new Acer into Ethernet, it works great. But I have had no luck trying to network with my other Ethernet Desktop.

Earlier versions of Windows, I was able to hook up network with Desktop. But now not sure what changed. Any help will be appreciated. Im sure this is a request heard quite often, but I did search your site with no help in this field. Searched "home network".

Thank you for your time

Hi Blackdog,

Yes, the simple HomeGroup feature for network sharing was removed in Win10 1803 and on. Apparently, it's still possible to share files between PCs via home network but from what I have read it is a mission. The process is so complicated it's not something I have been prepared to try out... not worth the effort in my opinion. Microsoft appears to be pushing people to using OneDrive for file sharing between PCs.

Thanks, I think that completely confirms my suspicions. OneDrive may work ok for a small number of files, but not for many videos. I really wanted a quick way to access them and copy to a external drive without having to hook up drive to Desktop. I used to use Home Networking previously, I'm not going to pay Onedrive money to access my files. External drive hook up will always work, but wished for easy way to transfer files both ways,

Thank you for the links concerning networking with Win 10, I will explore them to see if I can apply them to my situation.

Again, thank you for your knowledge and insight into my request. I appreciate a good knowledgeable response.
