Although the box "Leave a copy of the messages on the Server" is unchecked, all my Outlook messages remain on the Server (my ISP)
Any solutions out there?

Who is your ISP? Gmail, for example, ignores that setting in outlook, it's possible your ISP is too.

My ISP is Earthlink...I already communicated with them and they "maintain their innocence"!

Are you using MS Outlook or Outlook Express? Also, what do you mean when you say Earthlink maintains their innocense?

Hello-All,
A friend is having the same problem with outlook 03 and earthlink as her business isp...Outlook wasn't checked to delete msgs. from server which I did, her ISP which is verizon, was telling her they could NOT deliver more msgs. Earthlink had NO idea what the problem was? Subsequently, I deleted all msgs. on their server and that seemed to help.
She's running xp home. I've noticed in add/remove programs area, she's been upgraded via MS updates to office 2007....But, still outlook indicates she using 2003? Since I'm a mozilla TB/FF user, I'm not much help.

Hey John - So far as I know, it is impossible to update Office 2003 to Office 2007 via MS updates mate. They are completely separate programs which require completely separate installations. Not 100% certain in a corporate/business environment but I assume the same would also apply.

As far as I know, you can't upgrade MS Office simply through MS Updates.
But, you can (or at least could) upgrade from MS Office 2003 to MS Office 2007 (i.e. discount upgrade licenses).
From what John describes, I can only think of two cases:
1. Either his friend did upgrade to MS Office 2007 and chose to keep previous versions of MS Office 2003 programs (though I'm not sure if Outlook is one of the programs you can keep).
2. She's still on MS Office 2003 and what John sees in Add/Remove Programs are the Compatibility Packs for MS Office 2007 which do come through MS Updates.
Maybe John could provide more details?

I appreciate your kind responses...It does appear my friend has MS ( compatibility ) updates for office 2007. I know she's not purchased office products other than what came with HP OEM, which was office 2003..
Looks like it's time to buy a new computer??
Although, I see from MS site, office 2010 will run on Xp-SP3. I wonder if it's really cost effective and worth the steep learning curve?

Hi John,
In regard to your original post, I assume your friend has an email account with her ISP. Now, if your friend's ISP has a volume limit (in MB or GB) and messages are kept on their server, she won't be able to receive any new messages when that limit is reached - or if their system [i:2tmdj2gg]thinks[/i:2tmdj2gg] it was reached.
Though MS Outlook has an option to not keep messages on the mail server, it's often the case that the mail service itself doesn't comply with that option.
As for your last post, why would you say she needs to buy a new computer? Only to upgrade to MS Office 2010?
IMHO, you need to upgrade your H/W & S/W if your current H/W & S/W has stopped meeting your needs or something broke.
I'm on MS Office 2003 Pro since 2003 and as long as I can get things done, I'm not considering cashing out the amount MS asks for its later Office suites - probably will move to a free alternative, if need arises.

It isn't so much that Gmail ignores the settings, it's just that with gmail you need to select the option in their settings first, before selecting the option in Outlook.

You can keep two different versions of Microsoft Office on one computer but specifically NOT two different versions of Outlook.
