I don't use MS Excel but maybe you can help me. I have my Christmas Card list set up in spreadsheet form and in the column for zip code I have a zip code that starts with 0 and I can't get it to show up it leaves the 0 off. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can fix this. Thanks

I don't use Open Office, but I assume OO works similarly to MS Office and take a stab until Carol gets back...
If you right click on a problem cell look for a Format command in the menu. You can usually change the format of a cell to things like text, general, date, etc. These tell the software how to handle the information in that cell and each one will change the way the data displays and interacts with the other data. I would try different options to see which option gets the result you want. I imagine Text or General would work (it is a number, but there are no calculations to be made).
If you find the one that corrects the problem you can click on the row or column label and do the exact same for the entire row/column to fix all of them.

Select the cells you would like to format.
Right-click on one of the selected cells and select Format Cells.
In the Format Cells dialog that appears, select the Numbers tab if it is not on top.
In the Category list, select the type of data you are dealing with and inthe Format list, select specifically what yu want it to look like.
[b:1i0itgpo]Specify the number of leading zeroes, if any, for the number. If the value for th eleading zeroes does not stick, try formating the number as Text or General if appropriate. This is the approach you will need to use for postal codes.[/b:1i0itgpo]
Apply the Category of Text and the Format of @ if you want just the cell to accept normal text with no number formatting.

Thank you. Doing the text format with @ did the trick for the Zip Code cells. Since I only print my Christmas Labels once a year it takes me forever to remember how to do it. Have never had an formal training in using Word or Excel and learning on my own at an older age takes time. But I am so glad I didn't give up and stuck with it. Wouldn't take anything for my computer.
