Firstly, I want to congratulate Dave's Computer Tips for an outstanding contribution to those who want to learn about computers.

I understand that this site is also a business so I expect Tech Deals and other sales.

I would also appreciate Daily Giveaways but I am most often very disappointed:
a) products available as freeware have ridiculous prices attached to them making it look like you're getting a real deal!
b) some products have so little value that many can be reduced to one or two good programs (cCleaner, Karen's Tools, etc.)
c) many programs have severe limitations, like MiniPowerPowerDataRecovery, which is offered as freeware (limit to 1 gb recovery), along with two upgrades - for pay!

To be fair, there is sometimes a vaguely worded statement of limitations, usually located somewhere hard to find.

In case you're wondering if I'm just some idiot kid with time on my hands, I'm 70 years old, teaching computers for pay, with 35 years experience and writing computer courses on freeware. I know from where I come.

Maybe DCT needs the revenues? I just wish to would pay attention to the products and veto crapware like today's...what can you do with 1GB?

Hello Aurel, and thanks for posting.

I'm not sure exactly where you're finding a 1GB limit on today's software as I don't see any references to that limitation. Of course, I may be overlooking it.

I'll try to respond to your concerns as best I can.

Firstly, I want to congratulate Dave's Computer Tips for an outstanding contribution to those who want to learn about computers.

Thank you for your kind words, Aurel.

I understand that this site is also a business so I expect Tech Deals and other sales.

While it may technically be a business in that money comes in and goes out I can assure you that the amounts are laughably small. Everyone who contributes to DCT does so to help others - unless you consider receiving enough to buy a hamburger and small fry as adequate payment for the time required of the authors sufficient.

I would also appreciate Daily Giveaways but I am most often very disappointed:

We have to take the good with the bad, unfortunately.

a) products available as freeware have ridiculous prices attached to them making it look like you're getting a real deal!

For the most part if it's free it's free. Occasionally they do offer significant discounts off of MSRP for the software offered that isn't free.

b) some products have so little value that many can be reduced to one or two good programs (cCleaner, Karen's Tools, etc.)

Have you ever heard the saying, "Different strokes for different folks."? Not everyone agrees on the same software for like tasks and we have to respect that. Besides you never know unless you try them all out. 🙂

c) many programs have severe limitations, like MiniPowerPowerDataRecovery, which is offered as freeware (limit to 1 gb recovery), along with two upgrades - for pay!

I'm sorry, but I see no limitation on that software. That said often times the free version is the previous version (i.e., if they are selling version 10 they will giveaway version 9). When they do that they often offer the current version (version 10 in the example) at a significant discount.

To be fair, there is sometimes a vaguely worded statement of limitations, usually located somewhere hard to find.

I sure couldn't find it! 🙂

In case you're wondering if I'm just some idiot kid with time on my hands, I'm 70 years old, teaching computers for pay, with 35 years experience and writing computer courses on freeware. I know from where I come.

Thanks for sharing that, Aurel. I always wonder about our readers and it's nice to know a little about them.

Maybe DCT needs the revenues?

I definitely wouldn't turn down any revenue, but the Daily Giveaway doesn't make any money for the site. It is offered solely as a benefit to those who may find some value in the software offered.
