Yes folks, Microsoft have made available a desktop gadget which counts down the time to XP's end of support date [in 2014]. And in true MS style the countdown gadget is not available for machines running XP - only for those running Vista or Win7. Amazing!!

Kind of sad, but in the end I'll be glad to see it go.

Who in their right mind and on Vista or Win7 would be interested in the count down to XP's end of support??
I'm glad it's not working on XP - who in their right mind and still on XP would want such a mockish reminder?
On a side note, did you notice that in order to download it, validation is required?
All in all, it seems like the developement of this was a waste of time and resources.
I wonder, will it get patches in the future?

Agree 100% with you FD. Can't see a need nor a reason for something like that, for any OS!!
BTW: When XP reaches the end of support date in 2014 it will be 13 years young, the longest serving OS in Windows history...and, I hazard a guess, that's a record which will not be broken.
XP was the OS which introduced Windows Product Activation and the first to support 64-bit. XP is compiled from 45 million lines of code [the mind boggles!!].

Actually, that would have been a more appropriate name for Vista!!
So 3 more years of XP support. G-R-E-A-T news for XP users. We'll possible see the demise of Vista, end of Windows 7, and who knows what else. That old expression, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" rings out. BTW, I hear there's a new Ubuntu out there, Mindblower!
