Results of recent testing by NSS Labs have shown that Internet Explorer 9 clearly provides the best protection of any browser against socially engineered threats.

Socially engineered threats are those which rely on tricking victims into thinking they are downloading screen savers, antivirus, registry scanners and other legitimate software, when they

Would this mean that most of FF ability to protect users comes from addons, and that thus not including them, gave FF such a low rating, Mindblower!

Not necessarily MB. Remember, 'socially engineered threats' are just one aspect of a very large group of possibilities where malware is concerned.

Turns out I.E. is best at dealing with that particular threat, may well be that Firefox is much better at protecting in other areas, where I.E. may in fact be weaker.

There is no doubt though that FF's security can be very much beefed up via add-ons.
