Game Booster killed many games

After eschewing the concept for a long time, I finally decided to try Iobit's Game Booster to see if it could help with a game that wouldn't run in real time for me. I saw no appreciable improvement, but what I did get was black screens on a great many of my simpler free games that I had downloaded from GameTop and others. Total lockup, no recourse but reboot.

I removed the 'booster' app and cleaned up, but the problem remains. I reinstalled Adobe and Macromedia, as well as anything else I could think of and removed and reinstalled the games I play the most. No help. I know its trivial, but it bugs the heck out of me. Any thoughts?

Hey Texbem - When it comes to issues with the display you can generally point the finger at either RAM or graphics card.

Check the status of the graphics card via Device Manager. Make sure you have the latest driver too.

These booster programs work by turning off unnecessary background processes/services (or at least what [i:2260x5ar]they [/i:2260x5ar] deem as unnecessary). You may need to check your services to make sure none have remained stopped/disabled that shouldn't be.

What version of Windows are you running??

Cheers....Jim

Been a little stressed lately, should have thought to check the services. A couple of .net framework items were disabled. Not sure what that would have to do with these little game proggies but restoring them did give me back several of them (?). A few still go to lockup mode (i.e.: "frozen system"), one won't run but tells you so. I never had a problem before, never had to run in compatibility modes, did nothing but play them. Tried compatibility modes just for grins, no effect.

Running Win7x64, Nvidia 9800 GTX, Q9450 cpu, 3326MB Ram, etc. No problems running intensive graphics or, display as good as it can be, drivers 2010. Like I say, its not an inability but a recent failure induced by this 'booster' app, affecting only these simple games. I knew better, but what can I say...

A lot of software, including basic games, use the .net framework platform.

If it wasn't too long ago when you installed the game booster software you could try a System Restore. Otherwise you will just have to keep looking through those services and see if you can find anything else that needs to be re-enabled. Maybe try re-installing the graphics driver too.

Great specs BTW, nice machine! I guess it's a little late now to say that you didn't really need to bother with any booster software.

Cheers....Jim

Could you say which version you used ? And did you report this to IOBit ?

Thanks.

No, no clue. It came, it went, its gone...

Posted on the forum at IOBIT, modest help, didn't follow up yet.

Chewing on other issues at the moment, I'll revisit this when I have more time/patience...
