Hey Grr - If you are a fan of Agnitum software, why not give the Outpost Security Suite Free[/url:1ynyo0t6] a try. It includes combination AV/AS, Outpost Firewall and Anti-Spam. I have actually just written a piece on Outpost Security Suite Free which will be featured in the upcoming newsletter.

Failing that I would thoroughly recommend either MSE or Avast. The new version of Avast (v6) in particular includes a couple of nice innovations; a sandboxing facility plus a malicious web site warning service..

Cheers mate....Jim

I vote ESET or Microsoft Security Essentials.

The best free solution is unquestionably Microsoft Security Essentials. It's all I use these days. For a paid solution, I agree with Dave, ESET is the winner. Go with SmartSecurity 4.

Thanks All.

I would go with ESET (if I can get a license) if not Avast (as I have a license)....somehow I don;t trust MSE, so might install it on XP in VMWare

Grr - Eset is among the very best but, as you well know, it is not free. Shame about your mistrust of MSE, it really is very good. Still, Avast is also very good and will do a fine job for you.

Cheers mate....Jim

Avast will be the best for us as we are free users. Can anybody here help me getting free license key of ESET for one or two years?

raihan....i could...what are you willing to pay for it. Kidding, kidding...

Ken, someday I'm going to type up my rant on why Linux is not for the desktop and likely never will be. Sounds like a future article. Overall though, I agree with you. Linux just hasn't gotten down to everyday usability levels yet for anyone wanting to do more than surf the web.

((Edit: I split the relevant Linux discussion off onto its own post as we had hijacked the original discussion here. It can be found here: [url:3gsfhwv0]http://www.davescomputertips.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1252[/url:3gsfhwv0] )) Fun note: I didn't know I could do this....[/size:3gsfhwv0]
