Those are my primary lines of protection, but I also use run other programs (when offline) as scanning tools (Spybot to list one), Mindblower!

Two years ago, at your recommendation, I switched to ESET.I was quite pleased with this Security System.
Now however, I am not a happy user of ESET. At that time my XP Mother Board did a deep six and I bit the bullet and purchased an MSI Mother Board. That provided me with plenty of RAM and a Intel Dual Core Chip and I now could install Win 7. This was just before updating ESET 2012.
Things went down hill when I installed the latest ESET. The biggest downer was that that either my MSI Board or ESET 2012 Security System does not like my MSI setup. or something of that nature
I begin to have repeating messages telling me that my ESET had problems and needed to close. When I went through the problems listed, it was obvious that ESET or my MSI did not like to play together.
I reckon that I gave up when trying to work with the ESET folks. We were going at it like trying to mix water and oil.
Thus ESET went out the door and I went back to AVAST. Things are working OK with the removal of ESET took place.

I have used Vipre right from when it was launched. I recently won a one year subscription for BitDefender, it was uninstalled a lot quicker than it was installed! I dont like their "active" scan idea especially as it states on their homepage that an active computer can take a week or two to complete an active scan. Back to Vipre it is!
A week or two!! WOW, that's a loooong scan. Don't know much about Vipre but Bitdefender has a solid rep. I favor the freebies myself, Avast in particular. IMO, free AVs can be adequate, if one tends to surf safely and includes secondary layers of protection, such as sandboxie for example. Plus, I just don't like anything which involves ongoing costs.

Hey Claw - Yep, good choices mate. Only thing is that neither MBAM nor SAS (free) offer any additional protection... great on-demand/backup scanners though.
I've always maintained that there is no such thing as a one shoe fits all security strategy; levels of protection apply per individual, dependent on surfing habits, and degree of awareness.

My wife and my stepsons computer have Avast and they have never had cause to complain. Me I'm a sucker for a bargain. I bought a three year license for Vipre because there was a special deal and they gave me an extra year free!
Hey Dave, the Newbie thing really doesn't bother me, all in good fun buddy, since my last post on my personal computer I'm still using Avast Free, Mbam and SAS both free, but on my 2 test machines,, on one I'm using Comodo AV Free, and on the other I'm trying out a combination of Avast Free and Spyware Terminator,, so far so good.
